GM Defense Hosts Warrior Rising at Milford Proving Ground
GM Defense hosted leaders and members of the veteran support group Warrior Rising at General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground test site to demonstrate General Motors’ advanced technologies leveraged for global defense and government customers.
Warrior Rising is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping U.S. Military veterans achieve success in business through partnerships, mentoring, and economic assistance.
GM Defense offered more than 30 veterans test drives of both the GMC HUMMER EV and the Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicle, which is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Veterans also got a look at two of Chevrolet’s mid-engine performance cars – the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Corvette Z06.
Veterans also engaged in a discussion about Medal of Honor values, led by Medal of Honor Recipient Master Sergeant Earl Plumlee.
“GM Defense was honored to provide Warrior Rising members the chance to experience GM’s advanced technologies at Milford Proving Ground,” said John Johnson, GM Defense vice president of Government Solutions and Strategy. “These veterans are an extension of the important community that we serve. We appreciate opportunities to align our team to the values demonstrated by those in the U.S. military, including patriotism, commitment, and integrity.”
This week, Milford Proving Ground, GM’s flagship vehicle testing facility, celebrates its 100th anniversary. Opened in 1924, and now employing more than 4,000 people, Milford includes 150 miles of test roads spread across 4,000 acres in southeastern Michigan. While primarily a test site for cars, trucks and SUVs, Milford historically has played an important part in the development of military vehicles, among other things testing U.S. Army tanks and other vehicles during World War II.
“We are thrilled that GM Defense stepped up to host many of our Warrior Rising veterans taking part in their Detroit Veteran Business Shower, giving them an opportunity to experience firsthand some of the technologies that are helping to advance today’s modern U.S. military vehicles,” said Ken Vennera, chief of staff, Warrior Rising. “We look forward to future collaborations with GM Defense as we continue to help veterans succeed in business and in life.”
GM Defense hosted the event as part of Warrior Rising’s annual Motor City Mission summit in Detroit.
