L-3 Link Awarded Contract to Build Seventh F-16 Mission Training Center

L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) announced today that it has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Air Force to build an F-16 Mission Training Center (MTC) system for delivery to Spangdahlem Air Base (AB), Germany.

This award marks the seventh F-16 MTC system that L-3 Link has delivered or is in the process of integrating. Each of these systems includes four high-definition simulators, four instructor/operator stations, two brief/debrief systems and a mission observation center.

The technology driver behind the F-16 MTC solution is L-3 Link’s HD World® integrated simulation product line. High-definition displays, image generators, databases and physics processing technology combine to create highly realistic and relevant fighter training environments.

An example of the enhanced readiness being delivered by F-16 MTCs installed and operational at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB), Nev., and Hill AFB, Utah, is highlighted by the ability of pilots training in the systems to detect, determine the orientation of, recognize and identify targets with the same fidelity as they would when conducting an actual sortie.

Another F-16 MTC system is currently being installed at Shaw AFB, S.C. The program’s Training Systems Support Center in Arlington, Texas, also houses an F-16 MTC.

For each of these F-16 MTCs, The Boeing Company is providing instructor/operator stations as well as mission observation centers and brief/debrief systems.
