L-3 Link Simulation & Training Awarded $6.2 Million in Contracts to Support T-1A Ground Based Training System

ARLINGTON, Texas, November 10, 2010 – L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) announced today that it has been awarded $6.2 million in contracts from the U.S. Air Force to build one T-1A Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) and provide upgrades to fielded training devices under multiple engineering change proposals. The total program value of the T-1A Ground Based Training System (GBTS), for which L-3 Link serves as prime contractor, has grown to more than $53 million following these recent awards.

“We are very proud to have supported the T-1A Ground Based Training System since 2001 with cost-effective contractor logistics support solutions,” said Lenny Genna, president of L-3 Link. “L-3 Link will continue to deliver high-fidelity training systems and comprehensive support services that enable the T-1A training system to produce highly qualified graduates who are prepared to operate our nation’s airlift and tanker fixed-wing fleets.”

L-3 Link is currently installing a T-1A OFT at Vance Air Force Base, Okla., and will deliver the newly awarded simulator to Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, in the second quarter of 2011. These high-fidelity simulators, which have an out-the-window visual display that spans 220 degrees horizontally by 45 degrees vertically, will become the 12th and 13th T-1A OFTs fielded to support pilot training. T-1A OFTs are used to provide instrument, navigation, low-level flight and formation training.

Under recently awarded engineering change proposals, L-3 Link will provide networking capability in the third quarter of 2011 that will enable four T-1A OFTs to be connected during a training exercise. L-3 Link will also provide T-1A instructor operator stations with the capability to load and recall simulated routes and waypoints, allowing more time to be devoted to the training mission. Between 2010 and 2011, 30 low-fidelity navigational airfield databases will be replaced with enhanced imagery to support higher resolution training requirements.

In addition to Randolph and Vance Air Force Bases, other T-1A GBTS installations include Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas; Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.; and Pensacola Naval Air Station, Fla. At these installations, L-3 Link is responsible for modifying, maintaining and providing contractor logistics support for the program’s operational flight trainers and 14 avionics part task trainers.
