SAPPERS SCRUM DOWN WITH FAUN

The Corps’ of the Royal Engineers Rugby League team is storming through the season with the support of long term sponsors FAUN TRACKWAY – the defence division of FAUN ZOELLER UK Ltd.

The team – which won the Army’s Lawson Cup for 15 consecutive years between 1995 and 2010 – has used the money from the sponsorship deal to purchase new kits as well as training equipment and a tour to the South of France.

Based in Anglesey, North Wales, FAUN TRACKWAY has been producing its portable aluminium roadways and runways for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for more than 40 years.

Today, the business supplies over 40 different armed forces worldwide.

Many of the Royal Engineers play in the UK Army’s Rugby Union team that gets to compete at England’s national stadium Twickenham, regularly shown on national television.

The Army’s Rugby League teams have often struggled for sponsorship deals due to having a much lower profile than its counterparts in Rugby Union.

J Alun Jones, managing director at FAUN, said: “The Royal Engineers were the very first people to use TRACKWAY over four decades ago, so today we’re very proud to be supporting them on the pitch as well as in the field.”

The team’s manager, Major Damian Quinn, said: “Without FAUN’s sponsorship our team may not have been able to compete at all this year, so it has truly been invaluable.”
