The so-called Rio Plus 20 conference, from 13 to 22 June, will attract more than 100 high-level delegations from around the world. A major security operation is planned and Smiths Detection Brasil will provide around 120 systems including X-ray scanners for baggage and advanced portal and hand-held metal detectors.
Danilo Dias, CEO of Smiths Detection Brasil, said: “Our experience in providing equipment for previous major events in Rio such as the Pan American Games, combined with the outstanding quality and range of our systems, helped us win this prestigious contract.”
The Rio Plus 20 takes its name from the first Earth Summit held in Brazil in 1992.
Smiths Detection purchased its Sao Paulo-based distributor last year to take direct control over its sales in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. Brazil will host the football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016.
