Timoney Launches New Approach for AFV Steering
Uses experience of axles and running gear to develop modular approach
Navan, Ireland, 12th September 2017; A new modular approach to developing bespoke steering systemsspecifically aimed at the heavy off-highway vehicle market is announced today at DSEI by Timoney. Designed to be utilised on 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 vehicles, Timoney plans to offer solutions that can be integrated with any independent wheel movement axle system.
Using its experience of designing vehicle independent wheel movement axles, running gear and developing rapid solutions, Timoney has developed a custom design methodology utilising common architecture which can control whatever configuration the customer requires – whether it is front axle, front bogey, rear axle or all wheel steer. Timoney’s experience of independent suspension systems gives them the ideal background to maximise vehicle performance and optimise the typical geometry constraints of modern programmes.
“As AFVs are increasingly operating in urban environments with greater protection levels they are becomingheavier, and in many cases larger, this has resulted in a demand for manoeuvrability solutions such as rear axle and all wheel steer systems. Our experience and knowledge of independent wheel movement axles and steering systems gained during our 50 years in business puts Timoney in a very strong position to meet this demand,” said Shane O’Neill, Chief Executive of Timoney.
Timoney has established a robust supply chain from across Europe and will complete final assembly at its facility in Ireland.
“Initially we will meet market demands from our current facility but we have already developed plans for an extension to our building in Navan to accommodate further capacity as demand grows,” added O’Neill.
Timoney is celebrating 50 years in 2017. Originally established in a small workshop in the centre of Dublin, the company now operates from a purpose-built design and workshop facility in Navan, Co Meath. The company is the original pioneer of heavy vehicle independent suspension systems with over 20,000 solutions fitted to more than 100 vehicle types in 40 countries.
Timoney is exhibiting on stand N7-311 during DSEI being held at the Excel Centre London from 12 to 15 September 2017.
