Authorised to detect threats in baggage, cargo and on passengers.
MMTD - Multi Mode Threat Detector
The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has formally approved Smiths Detection’s Multi-Mode Threat Detector (MMTD) as an explosives trace detection system to inspect cabin and hold baggage, cargo and passengers. The DFT approval has been granted for particulate mode.
The MMTD is a rugged, portable hand-held system designed for the rapid detection and identification of explosives, narcotics, Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Industrial Chemicals. Its tough exterior can withstand the harshest elements and wide range of threat detection capability and portability makes it ideal for aviation, special events and border security.
Andrew Lee, Smiths Detection’s Managing Director, UK Sales, said: “MMTD’s ability to rapidly detect explosives across a broad range of environments and applications will make a critical addition to the layers of security established by the DfT. Its functionality and Smiths Detection’s globally-recognized commitment to training and service offer excellent overall value.”
MMTD features up to four operating modes, including a dual setting for simultaneous detection of explosives and narcotics from one sample. Operators can also quickly switch between particle or vapour analysis methods to optimize threat detection. Hot-swappable batteries support up to five hours of uninterrupted operation and the system is capable of remote, unattended operation for one or more units with alarm and status information reported to Command & Control via Wi-Fi/Ethernet.
