Unique Front Protection at National Museum

Visitors to the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea can look forward to seeing a pair of boxer shorts which are helping to protect soldiers against blast injuries caused by the Taliban’s roadside bombs in Afghanistan.

Blast Protective Boxer Shorts

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are the single biggest cause of deaths and injuries to troops serving in Afghanistan.  To help protect our troops from IED related injuries to the groin area, Cardiff-based survival equipment specialists, BCB International Ltd, created a pair of boxer shorts made from Kevlar called ‘Blast Boxers’ which capture most of the fragments and debris blasted at them by IEDs.  The invention will be on display at the National Waterfront Museum’s forthcoming ‘Frontiers Gallery’ which will showcase some of the latest innovations in Wales.

BCB International’s Blast Boxers Project Manager, Jonathan Delf, said: ”The Blast Boxers are making a real difference to the safety of soldiers who wear them.  We are absolutely delighted to see the Blast Boxers on display in such an important Institution.  We wholeheartedly support the ‘Frontiers Gallery’ because it will celebrate some of the innovative products made by Welsh Businesses and hopefully inspire future generations of world-beating Welsh inventors.”
