Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) is a paint finish applied to military vehicles. It provides protection against chemical and biological weapons. Its unique formulation allows coated vehicles to be decontaminated in the event of exposure to chemical or biological warfare agents. CARC is highly resistant to damage and removal by decontaminating solutions.
Trimite’s CARC products have been specified on some of Europe’s most significant build projects, such as the Mastiff, Ridgeback, Supacat Jackal and Warthog armoured vehicles. We have also contributed to many Urgent Operation Requirements (UOR).
In addition to our own Trimite formulated brand, we are close allies and strategic partners with Weilburger Coatings; recently securing the contract to supply a Weilburger coating system for the Boxer MIV, which will run over the next 5-7 years.

DEF STAN 80-225
Trimite Defence Products are tested and approved to strict Military Specifications and rigorous DEF STAN testing standards. These Specifications also cover chemical (nerve) agent resistance and Infra-Red Resistance (IRR) camouflage, which applies to most colours supplied as near-matt finishes.
DEF STAN 80-225 specification replaces UK MOD specifications DEF STAN 80-206, DEF STAN 80-207, DEF STAN 80-208 and DEF STAN 80-209.
DEF STAN 80-225 is the British paint standard that sets requirements for the performance and durability of paints used in military applications. Some of the key features of this standard include the following:

- Resistance to weathering, including exposure to salt spray and UV radiation.
- Compatibility with other materials commonly used in military applications, such as metals and plastics.

DEF STAN 80-225 is an essential standard for anyone involved in designing or manufacturing military equipment. It ensures that the paints used can withstand rigorous military use and maintain their performance over time.
DEF STAN 80-225 Coating System
The complete DEF STAN 80-225 system includes a two pack primer that meets the standard protection requirements for Type-1 Ferrous or Type-2 Non-Ferrous substrates. Our coating system is specifically designed for military ground vehicles and non-flight equipment, offering a variety of near-matt finishes in different colours. Furthermore, it provides chemical agent resistance and infra-red reflectance options, making it an ideal choice for such applications.
This advanced coating system eliminates the use of toxic hexavalent chromate in the coating process, making it safer and more environmentally friendly.
Type 1 and Type 2 Primer - Trimite D00383 Finish Matt Grey
We offer a two pack primer that is equipped with anticorrosive properties and can be used with Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC). This primer is ideal for use on phosphated steel. If the steel has not been pretreated and needs an etch primer, we recommend using Trimite HP20/SAR2 etch primer.
Topcoat (IRR and CARC) - Trimite D00294-series Near Matt Finish
This two pack finish with low VOC’s is ideal for military vehicles and ground equipment. It offers excellent durability and resistance to chemicals and hydraulic fluids. It also provides Infra-red Resistance (IRR) and Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) when used with the recommended primer. IRR camouflage coatings make painted items more difficult to detect using infra-red night vision detectors.
